As a family photographer, I do what I do because I believe every parent should experience the joy of having long-lasting, amazing portraits that honor their beautiful family and tether them to the memory of their kids’ childhoods forever. I’m also a parent who knows how incredibly special those portraits are, especially as the years pass and your kids grow up.
All that goes to say that I understand why it’s so important to book your photo session and why it can be stressful that my schedule fills up well in advance, but there’s an important reason why this is the case. In total, I only book six sessions per week (other than my occasional mini-session events), and I do this for the benefit of my clients and their families.
The Benefits of Limited Family Photo Sessions
Throughout the years I’ve spent as a photographer, I’ve discovered that there are so many things that affect how a family’s photo session will turn out. Photographer skills, kids’ moods, lighting, location, and so many other factors will come into play. Ultimately, though, there’s one determining factor that rules them all: time and personal attention.
For starters, when I limit the family photo sessions in my schedule, it lets me take the time to help you with all the planning before your session. I’m here to answer any questions you have, give you wardrobe advice, and more, so a balanced schedule lets me remain available to you.
When I take enough session time for every family, it makes all the difference in the world. I’m able to establish trust and familiarity with you and your kids so everyone is more comfortable in front of the smiles. I’m able to capture more of those little between-shots moments you’ll truly remember, like the silly jokes your kids make, allowing me to get genuine family interactions and authentic smiles in your portraits. We’re able to find the poses and positions that make everyone look and feel their best.
Along with taking enough time to make your family photo session outstanding, limiting my sessions lets me spend more time customizing and retouching your photos too. My aim every time is to deliver a gallery that makes you say, “That’s it, that’s the beautiful family that has my heart.” After years of experience, I’ve found a balanced session schedule that allows me to give this joy to every client.
Maintaining My Balance as a Photographer
Limiting my weekly photo sessions doesn’t just allow me to give clients the personal attention they deserve; it allows me to give my family personal attention too. As a mom, I always have my kids’ best interests at heart. Maintaining the work/life balance I’ve established allows me to give the best of myself to my family and my clients alike – you don’t want a photographer who’s burnt out or is rushing to get home to their kids because they don’t get enough of their own family time.
